BUA Cement donates ₦12m to 8 road crash victims families

Katsina State Government

In a gesture that has brought a measure of relief to grieving families following a fatal road accident along the Kajiji–Tambuwal road in Sokoto State, the management of BUA Cement has donated a total of ₦12 million to the families of eight victims who lost their lives in the tragedy.

The donation, made on compassionate grounds, saw each bereaved family receive ₦1.5 million as the company extended its hands of support to relatives struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of their loved ones, including a child who died in the accident.

The fatal crash reportedly occurred during the week when a commercial mini vehicle conveying 13 passengers rammed into a BUA Cement truck along the Kajiji–Tambuwal road, claiming eight lives and leaving families and the wider community in mourning.

In a demonstration of concern for the affected families, the management of BUA Cement visited the bereaved households in Tambuwal, accompanied by the District Head of Tambuwal, Alhaji Ahmad Dahiru, and the Chairman of Tambuwal Local Government Area, Hon. Abba Shehu Tambuwal.

During the visit, the company presented the financial assistance to the families as an expression of sympathy and solidarity at a time when words alone could hardly ease the pain of losing loved ones in such tragic circumstances.

The intervention has been widely regarded by the community’s traditional and political leadership as an extraordinary act of corporate compassion, particularly given reports that the BUA Cement truck was not at fault in the accident.

Commending the management for the gesture, the District Head of Tambuwal, Alhaji Ahmad Dahiru, and the local government chairman, Hon. Abba Shehu Tambuwal, described the donation as unprecedented and a remarkable demonstration of humanity in the face of tragedy.

They observed that it was rare for an organisation whose vehicle was reportedly not responsible for an accident to go beyond expressions of sympathy and provide substantial financial assistance to the families of those who died.

According to them, the gesture demonstrated that corporate responsibility extends beyond commercial activities and can be expressed through practical support for communities, particularly when tragedy strikes and vulnerable families are left to confront the emotional and economic consequences of sudden bereavement.

The two leaders praised BUA Cement for what they described as an unexpected but deeply appreciated intervention, noting that the ₦1.5 million provided to each family would offer some immediate assistance as the relatives navigate the difficult period of mourning.

They also commended the company for identifying with the people of Tambuwal at a moment of collective grief, stressing that such acts of kindness could strengthen trust between corporate organisations and the communities in which they operate.

For the bereaved families, the loss of loved ones remains an irreplaceable tragedy. However, the financial support offers a tangible expression of solidarity, demonstrating that even amid profound sorrow, compassion and collective responsibility can provide some comfort.

The District Head and the local government chairman prayed that Almighty Allah would abundantly reward the management of BUA Cement for the humanitarian gesture and grant the deceased eternal rest.

They also prayed for strength, patience and comfort for the bereaved families as they endure the painful loss of their loved ones, saying the memory of the victims should remain a reminder of the need for compassion, responsible road use and support for those affected by tragedy.

The donation has placed BUA Cement in the spotlight for a humanitarian intervention that goes beyond routine corporate engagement, highlighting the important role businesses can play in supporting communities during moments of grief and uncertainty.

While no financial assistance can replace the lives lost in the crash, the gesture stands as a significant act of solidarity with the affected families and a reminder that corporate citizenship is measured not only by economic contributions but also by the willingness to stand with people in their most difficult moments.
