The Chairman of the Bama Reconstruction and Resettlement Committee, who also doubles as Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, has led a two-day inspection tour across communities in Bama Local Government Area, reaffirming government’s resolve to rebuild war-torn towns and restore normalcy.
The visit, which covered Bama, Mayanti, Darul Jamal, and Banki, began with a courtesy call on the Shehu of Bama, His Royal Highness Dr. Umar Kyari Umar El-Kanemi, and the Brigade Commander of the 21 Armoured Brigade, Brig. Gen. T. A. Ayoola.
In Mayanti, the committee inspected the construction of 500 houses and clearance works designed to boost security and resettle displaced residents.
The team also stormed Darul Jamal, where they assessed the rehabilitation of 109 houses destroyed during the September 5 insurgent attack, alongside clearance and fortification works. Farming activities, water supply, and health services were also reviewed, with the Commissioner assuring locals that government remains committed to improving security and reopening schools in the area.
Banki town was another major stop. The committee delivered logistics support from the Borno State Government to the 152 Task Force Battalion, before inspecting a 450-unit housing project, a new Vocational Training Centre at Taradal Banki, and the Banki Cattle Market. Educational facilities, including the Tijjani Banki Memorial Government Day Secondary School and the Banki Central Primary and Junior Day Secondary School, also came under review.
Engr. Wakilbe was accompanied by top officials, including Bama LGA Vice Chairman Hon. Babagana Yusuf, Committee Secretary Engr. Gujja Dalori, SSA on Security to the Governor Hon. Abba Kolo Kumshe, District Head of Banki Alhaji Muhammed Shehu Umar, and Village Head of Banki Lawan Modu, among other stakeholders.
The tour underscores Borno State Government’s drive to rebuild shattered communities, restore livelihoods, and fast-track the safe return of displaced families.
