Relief and jubilation swept through Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State as Boko Haram terrorists reportedly released 416 residents abducted during a deadly raid on the community months ago.
The freed captives, comprising mainly women, children and other vulnerable residents, had been taken away by the insurgents during an attack that forced many families into uncertainty and anguish.
Sources familiar with the development said the released victims have begun reuniting with their families, bringing an end to months of fear and separation for many households.
The release is being viewed as a significant development in the ongoing security situation in the North-East, where thousands of civilians have suffered displacement, abduction and other hardships as a result of insurgency.
Community leaders and residents expressed gratitude over the return of the captives while calling for sustained efforts to restore peace and security across affected communities in Borno State.
Authorities are expected to conduct medical checks and provide necessary humanitarian support to the freed victims as they begin the process of reintegration into their communities.
