Police operatives in Bauchi have apprehended five suspects, and recovered various production machinery and adulterated fertiliser products, after a successful dismantling of an illicit fertiliser production operation structure.
The operatives, under the State Police Command, following an intelligence report, detained Muhammad Abubakar, accused of producing adulterated herbicides at his residence in the Magaji Quarters of Bauchi metropolis.
According to the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the suspect was traced down and captured in the market while possessing six bags of suspected adulterated fertiliser and forty-six bottles of adulterated herbicides.
CSP Ahmed Wakil said in a press statement in Bauchi Wednesday, said that a subsequent search warrant executed at the suspect’s residence yielded several incriminating items.
They include thirty-eight (38)empty cartons of assorted herbicides,
fourteen (14) NPK sacks, nine (9) Indorama sacks, One (1) empty jerrycan, five (5) spoons, Charcoal stoves, a bundle of nylon, Sacks containing Ztars and lambda powder
The suspect had during interrogation confessed to the charges and implicated Abubakar Umar, a resident of the same vicinity, as an accomplice.
“In a related incident on 14 May 2025, at about 1700 hours, the Command received information from a concerned citizen regarding the illegal production and sale of adulterated fertiliser at a shop owned by Anas Abubakar, aged 32, situated along Gombe Road”, Wakil said.
CSP Wakil said that the report led to the arrest of Anas Abubakar, who was found in possession of forty-four (44) and a half bags of adulterated fertiliser, admitted to have purchased the illicit products from one Abdulrahaman Muhammad (24) of Bakaro quarters, in Bauchi metropolitan area.
Although Anas Abubakar denied selling the adulterated fertiliser, he however acknowledged supplying raw materials, such as moulded kaolin used in the adulteration process.
Anas further stated that he obtained these materials from one Ziya’u Bala (27) of the Gudum Hausawa area in Bauchi, who was subsequently traced and arrested, also cooperated with detectives, leading them to Natsira Hamlet via Kangare Village, where his illicit production facility was discovered.
The police press statement further disclosed that the production facility housed approximately one hundred (100) bags and additional heaps of the adulterated product.
“Anas later confessed to utilizing adulterated materials sourced from Abdulrahaman, which he blended with Urea fertiliser to produce the adulterated fertiliser. The operation which followed resulted in the recovery of many exhibit items

One hundred (100) bags of moulded kaolin, twelve (12) bags of fertiliser, and a bag of urea fertiliser.
“Further investigations revealed two additional illicit production facilities owned by Sama’ila Abdullahi (34) of Natsira Hamlet, and Mujahid Abdullahi (32) of Kangere Village, both of whom were also arrested”, CSP Wakil revealed.
“They confessed to selling their illicit goods to Abdulrahaman, who in turn supplied Anas”, adding that the three illicit facilities were dismantled, and all associated machinery was recovered as exhibits.
The statement said that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu has assured the public that the command is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that the law will be applied rigorously against anyone found guilty of participating in these unlawful activities.
