Bashir Ahmed Hails Arrest Warrant for DSS Officer, Says Justice Must Prevail

Borno State Government

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmed has welcomed reports that a court has issued an arrest warrant for a Department of State Services (DSS) officer, describing the development as a reassuring sign that accountability is taking root.

Reacting via his X account, Ahmed said the warrant against Mr. Ifeanyi Festus—who is facing serious allegations of human-rights violations—underscores the principle that no individual is above the law. The allegations, which remain before the courts, involve the abduction of a minor, Walida Sani, from Jigawa State, claims of forced religious conversion, and grave abuse that reportedly led to pregnancy, with subsequent medical complications treated in Abuja.

While stressing that the matter is still subject to judicial determination, Ahmed noted that the court’s action sends a powerful message about the responsibility of the justice system to protect vulnerable persons, uphold freedom of religion and enforce the rule of law without fear or favour.

“The issuance of an arrest warrant is an important signal,” Ahmed wrote, adding that many Nigerians will be watching closely as the legal process unfolds, hopeful that it delivers truth, justice and stronger safeguards against abuse.

The case has drawn nationwide attention, renewing calls for transparency, due process and firm consequences wherever credible allegations of rights violations arise.
