….Former Rep Rolls Out Cash Support, Women Empowerment; Reaffirms Commitment to Grassroots Development
By:ABC News Nigeria
A former member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Armaya’u Abdulkadir (AY), has made a major empowerment intervention in Dutsin-Ma and Kurfi Federal Constituency of Katsina State, distributing more than 300 motorcycles, cash and other forms of support to residents.
The massive empowerment programme, held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, was aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship, boosting livelihoods and providing fresh opportunities for residents struggling with the impact of persistent security challenges in the area.
The intervention, which also extended to women, underscores AY’s continued engagement with his constituents despite losing his bid to return to the National Assembly in the 2023 general elections.
Speaking with journalists during the programme, one of the beneficiaries, Aminu Amange, described the distribution as a timely intervention, particularly at a period when the rising cost of living has made it increasingly difficult for ordinary residents to acquire motorcycles for their daily economic activities.
Amange said the motorcycles would provide beneficiaries with an opportunity to improve their livelihoods, facilitate transportation and expand their income-generating activities.
He noted that AY had continued to contribute to the development of the constituency through various interventions, including road construction, healthcare facilities, schools, access to portable drinking water, free medical outreaches and scholarship support.
According to him, the former lawmaker’s interventions have touched different aspects of community life, particularly in areas affecting the welfare and economic well-being of ordinary residents.
Amange also emphasised the need for sustained cooperation among security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to tackle the security challenges confronting Dutsin-Ma, Kurfi and neighbouring communities.
He maintained that safeguarding lives and property requires collective responsibility, stressing the importance of effective collaboration between federal and state authorities, security agencies and local communities.
The beneficiary further disclosed that the empowerment programme was expected to extend to more people, including women and other groups, as part of efforts to widen the impact of the intervention.
He called on other affluent individuals and public figures to emulate the gesture by investing in initiatives that directly improve the lives of people at the grassroots.
AY’S POLITICAL JOURNEY, GRASSROOTS COMMITMENT
Despite losing his seat in the 2023 general elections, AY has continued to maintain a presence in his constituency through interventions aimed at addressing some of the pressing needs of his people.
Among the projects attributed to him are the construction of a two-kilometre road and the establishment of healthcare facilities to bring medical services closer to residents.
His latest empowerment programme, featuring the distribution of more than 300 motorcycles alongside cash assistance and support for women, has further highlighted his focus on direct interventions for constituents.
In a further pledge, the former lawmaker expressed his commitment to exploring additional empowerment opportunities, particularly for women, while promising to look into more infrastructure projects capable of stimulating commercial activities and improving economic opportunities across the constituency.
The initiative comes at a time when many communities in Katsina State are grappling with economic difficulties and the consequences of insecurity, making grassroots support and livelihood interventions particularly important.
For beneficiaries of the latest programme, the motorcycles represent more than a means of transportation; they offer an opportunity to pursue economic activities, improve household income and strengthen their capacity to withstand prevailing economic challenges.
