In a bold move to stem the rising wave of road crashes, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched a statewide traffic enforcement operation targeting reckless motorists and habitual traffic offenders.
The exercise, personally supervised by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, is aimed at restoring sanity on the state’s roads, protecting lives and property, and enforcing strict compliance with traffic regulations.
According to the Command, the operation will focus on major traffic violations, including one-way driving, excessive speeding, the use of covered or concealed vehicle number plates, the illegal operation of motorcycles on restricted routes, and other offences that endanger road users.
Police described the exercise as a proactive public safety initiative designed to reduce avoidable accidents and improve order on highways across Akwa Ibom, stressing that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.
The Command, however, assured law-abiding residents that the operation is not intended to harass motorists but to promote responsible road use and ensure safer roads for everyone.
CP Azare urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, motorcyclists, and other road users to obey traffic rules and cooperate with officers deployed for the exercise.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the enforcement campaign as part of broader efforts to curb road fatalities, improve traffic discipline, and safeguard lives across Akwa Ibom State.
