The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, AIG Rashid Afebua, has visited the Akwa Ibom State Police Command in Uyo, commending the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, while charging officers to strengthen intelligence-led and professional policing.
AIG Afebua made the call on Monday, September 14, 2026, during an official supervisory visit to the Command Headquarters, where he interacted with officers and personnel and reviewed key issues concerning discipline, operational effectiveness and security management.
The visit was part of the AIG’s engagement with police formations under Zone 6 and was aimed at assessing operational readiness, strengthening professional standards and providing strategic direction to personnel.
Receiving the AIG and his delegation, CP Azare described the visit as timely and significant, noting that the Command remained committed to tackling emerging security challenges through proactive and intelligence-driven operations.
According to the Commissioner, the Command has intensified efforts against kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, drug-related offences, violent crimes and other threats through strategic deployment, visibility patrols, community engagement and cooperation with other security agencies.
Addressing the personnel, AIG Afebua praised their commitment and sacrifices in maintaining law and order, urging them to uphold discipline, courage, integrity and professionalism at all times.
He particularly commended CP Azare for his leadership and the progress recorded by the Command in sustaining peace and security across the state.
The AIG, however, urged the Commissioner and his officers not to relent, stressing the need to consolidate existing gains while identifying and addressing areas requiring further improvement.
Afebua emphasised that modern policing must go beyond the mere physical deployment of officers, saying credible intelligence, strategic planning, effective supervision and rapid response remain critical tools in preventing and combating crime.
He warned personnel against acts capable of damaging public confidence in the Police, including corruption, indiscipline, abuse of authority and other forms of misconduct.
The Zone 6 police boss also charged commanders at all levels to lead by example and maintain proper supervision of personnel under their command.
He called for deeper collaboration between the Police, sister security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders, noting that lasting security can only be achieved through strong partnerships with the communities being served.
As the country approaches another electoral season, AIG Afebua reminded police personnel of their constitutional responsibility to remain politically neutral, impartial and professional.
He directed officers to ensure that all lawful political activities are conducted in a peaceful and secure environment, without discrimination or partisan interference.
The engagement also provided personnel with an opportunity to receive direct professional guidance from the Zone 6 leadership on discipline, integrity, respect for human rights and effective service delivery.
Responding, CP Azare thanked the AIG for the visit and the strategic interaction with officers and men of the Command.
He said the engagement had provided valuable professional insight and further strengthened the Command’s resolve to improve its operational effectiveness and security services to the people of Akwa Ibom State.
