KATSINA, May 18, 2025 — The Katsina State Police Command has arrested four suspected drug traffickers in a major breakthrough against cross-border drug smuggling operations. Acting on credible intelligence, officers apprehended the suspects on May 16 at about 2:00 p.m. at the Kofar Guga garage, as they attempted to ferry a large consignment of illicit drugs to Maradi in the Niger Republic.
The suspects — Aliyu Idris (23), Abubakar Sa’idu (20) of Kofar Kwaya, and Abubakar Suleiman (25) and Tajuddeen Umar (35) of Sabuwar Unguwa — were found in possession of 5,000 Exol tablets and 430 Tramadol tablets, which were concealed and ready for transportation.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and fingered a yet-to-be-apprehended Abuja-based supplier simply identified as “Abba.” Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing kingpin.
Commending the swift and coordinated action, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, praised the operatives and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to rid Katsina State of drug-related crimes. He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the command with timely information.
“This arrest is a testament to our unrelenting commitment to dismantling drug networks threatening the safety of our communities,” CP Shehu stated.
Police say the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
