The Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Kano State has on Tuesday organized a one-day stakeholders meeting to set an agenda for its five-year strategic plan.
In her address, the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi HOD, highlighted the pressing challenges facing Kano State.
Hajiya Amina HOD said the most populous state in Nigeria, Kano is grappling with the effects of climate change, flooding, food insecurity, youth restiveness, and their impacts on healthcare delivery, environmental degradation, education, and the displacement of people from their homes and workplaces among others.
The Commissioner further noted that Kano’s geographical proximity to northwestern states affected by banditry and insecurity exacerbates humanitarian crises.
“The influx of people fleeing insecurity into Kano worsens population challenges and creates further humanitarian crises,” she explained.
To address these issues, Hajiya Abdullahi said the ministry is identifying and prioritizing humanitarian response needs while developing a comprehensive five-year strategic plan.
“This plan will serve as a framework for annual operational plans to tackle poverty and other challenges effectively,” she added.
In his remarks, the ministry’s Technical Adviser, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, emphasized the importance of collaboration for sustainable solutions.
“Effective implementation of humanitarian and poverty alleviation strategies requires strong partnerships with government agencies, local organizations, and international bodies,” he said.
The stakeholders meeting brought together over 50 participants from government, local NGOs, and international agencies to deliberate on the strategic direction and collaborative efforts needed to address the state’s pressing challenges
