Governor Bala Mohammed has assured that he would diligently work with other leaders of the Allied People’s Movement (APM)to strengthen the party and ensure that the it does not disappoint Nigerians.
He also pledged his full support for the party’s presidential candidate, and Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, described the pairing of Makinde with the party’s Vice-Presidential Candidate, former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Alhaji Lawal Daura, as a strategic combination of expertise.
The Governor who appreciated his inauguration as the APM National Leader, said that the duo are capable of addressing some of Nigeria’s major challenges, particularly insecurity and economic hardship, as he promised that the party would pursue an inclusive political platform capable of accommodating Nigerians across different backgrounds.
The occasion was the national convention of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) held Thursday at the Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu Square of the Government House, Bauchi where new leaders of the party emerged ahead of the 2027 general elections in the country.
Senator Bala Mohammed expressed appreciation to the party for the confidence reposed in him, pledged to support its presidential candidate through every legitimate means, assuring that APM is committed to addressing challenges including hunger, insecurity, disunity and the need to strengthen the nation’s economic resilience.
Governor Bala who is an APM senatorial candidate in the forthcoming elections, explained that the choice of Makinde as presidential candidate and former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Alhaji Lawal Daura, as his running mate demonstrates the party’s decision to put the right people in the right positions.
Mohammed explained that APM Flagbearer Makinde, as an engineer, has the capacity to design, plan and execute, while Daura’s extensive experience in the security sector would contribute significantly to addressing insecurity.
Also speaking, the APM presidential candidate congratulated Governor Bala Mohammed and other newly elected national officers, saying the emergence of a credible opposition was essential for the sustenance of democracy, and urged the party to work with other opposition parties to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative in the forthcoming general election.
He opined that the 2027 election must be an election about outcomes, rather than slogans, announcements and political promises, and challenged political leaders to demonstrate how their policies would improve the lives of Nigerians, particularly through job creation, improved education and healthcare, enhanced security, agricultural productivity and greater economic opportunities for young people.
The Oyo Governor also advocated for greater devolution of powers and resources within Nigeria’s federal structure, arguing that decisions affecting the people should be taken closer to them, and assured that APM would promote a new form of politics based on trust, accountability, measurable plans and constructive opposition, where political disagreements would not turn opponents into enemies.
Engineer Oluseyi Makinde, pledged to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of the polls, saying the emergence of APM as an opposition party in a short period underscores the need for it to work with other opposition parties to strengthen democracy and provide Nigerians with a credible alternative in 2027.
According to him, Nigerians should judge government by what changes in their daily lives, including what their income can buy, access to productive employment, improved agricultural productivity, access to markets and the ability of citizens to live and sleep securely.
Makinde said the central question in the 2027 election should not simply be what government has done, but what has changed for Nigerians, challenging political parties and candidates to explain what they intend to do differently and the measurable difference Nigerians should expect.
He assured that APM would focus on an economy capable of moving millions of Nigerians out of poverty, creating productive jobs for the country’s youthful population, improving education and healthcare, and providing effective security.
The National Chairman of the APM, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle at the convention, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to building a strong national political structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
Alh. Yusuf Dantalle assured that the party would continue to bring together, Nigerians and political leaders committed to national development, democratic values, integrity and service, as the APM seeks to position itself as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
