The Command vows to arrest and prosecute offenders, regardless of political affiliation
The Katsina State Police Command has drawn a red line against political thuggery, electoral violence and other unlawful activities, warning politicians and their supporters that anyone caught disturbing public peace during the 2027 electioneering period will face the full weight of the law.
The warning comes as political parties officially commence campaigns ahead of the forthcoming general elections, with the police assuring residents of adequate security throughout the campaign period.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, psc(+), mnips, issued the warning on Thursday, October 29, 2026, through a statement signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.
Fage declared that the command, working in collaboration with sister security agencies, was fully prepared to prevent violence and ensure peaceful political activities across Katsina State.
He stressed that while political parties, candidates and their supporters have the constitutional right to campaign and participate in the electoral process, nobody would be allowed to hide under such rights to cause disorder or threaten the safety of others.
The police commissioner specifically warned against political thuggery, hate speech, inflammatory statements, destruction of campaign billboards and posters, unlawful gatherings, illegal possession of dangerous weapons and vote buying.
He further warned that individuals or groups found violating the Electoral Act and other relevant laws would be dealt with decisively, irrespective of their political status, influence or party affiliation.
The CP also placed responsibility on parents, guardians and political stakeholders to ensure their children, supporters and party members are not recruited or encouraged to engage in violence during campaigns.
Candidates and political parties were equally advised to conduct their activities strictly in accordance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The command called on residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious movements and activities to the nearest police station.
Members of the public can also reach the command through its emergency lines: 0815 697 7777, 0707 272 2539 and 0902 220 9690.
The Katsina Police Command reaffirmed its determination to protect lives and property, maintain public order and guarantee a secure environment where all political parties and candidates can exercise their democratic rights without intimidation or violence.
