Zulum Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Infrastructure as Gubio Leads Inspection of Ongoing Projects Across Maiduguri

Borno State Government

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering sustainable and high-quality infrastructure across Borno State, emphasizing that every project under his government must serve the public interest and meet the highest standards of excellence.

In line with this vision, the Borno State Ministry of Works and Housing, under the leadership of Hon. Mustapha Gubio, embarked on a comprehensive inspection tour of major capital projects currently underway across the Maiduguri metropolis. The oversight exercise, conducted between Monday, October 13, and Tuesday, October 14, 2025, reflects Governor Zulum’s policy of transparency, accountability, and results-oriented governance.

During the tour, the Commissioner and his delegation inspected several strategic sites, including the Shehu’s Palace Guest House, where the ministry is constructing four semi detached two bedroom flats to enhance hospitality within the royal premises. Hon. Gubio commended the quality of work and reaffirmed Governor Zulum’s recognition of the traditional institution as a key development partner.

At Kasuwan Shanu, Hon. Gubio expressed concern over the delayed pace of the dual carriageway and drainage project, stressing that the contract duration had already elapsed. He directed the contractors to expedite completion, warning that the Zulum administration will not tolerate poor performance or compromise on standards.

The team also visited Al-Ansar University along Gubio Road, where a 400-seater auditorium and lecture theatre are under construction. After receiving briefings from engineers, Hon. Gubio urged strict adherence to specifications, noting that the project aligns with Governor Zulum’s broader vision to strengthen educational infrastructure and expand access to modern learning facilities.

Similarly, the delegation inspected the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of Pompamari Bypass Road, expected to ease vehicular movement and enhance safety across the city. Hon. Gubio highlighted that the Zulum-led government remains committed to modernising Maiduguri’s urban transport corridors and expanding economic opportunities through road connectivity.

At the Industrial Hub along Maiduguri–Kano Road, opposite Kashim Ibrahim University, the Commissioner evaluated ongoing road and drainage works designed to stimulate economic growth and attract investors. He also expressed satisfaction with the progress at the Trailer Park and Six-Span Bridge across River Ngadda, describing them as integral to Governor Zulum’s long-term blueprint for transforming the state’s capital into a model of infrastructural excellence.

The inspection concluded at the site of the nine-span Flyover Bridge at Post Office Roundabout one of the flagship projects under Governor Zulum’s administration. Site engineers briefed the team that work was progressing steadily and on track for completion in December 2025.

Speaking to journalists at the end of the exercise, Hon. Mustapha Gubio lauded the overall progress and reaffirmed that Governor Zulum’s leadership continues to drive results across all sectors.

“Governor Zulum’s vision is clear — every project must be executed with integrity, quality, and speed, ensuring it truly serves the people and stands the test of time,” Hon. Gubio stated.

The Commissioner pledged that the Ministry of Works and Housing will sustain routine monitoring of all ongoing projects to ensure contractors adhere to specifications and timelines.

The inspection team included members of the Borno State House Committee on Works and Housing, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Special Advisers, and other senior officials — demonstrating the Zulum administration’s collective resolve to deliver enduring infrastructure for the people of Borno State.
