Zulum Crowns New Shehu of Bama, Calls for Inspired Leadership

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has officially presented the Staff of Office to the new Shehu of Bama, (Dr) Umar Kyari Umar ElKanemi, urging him to provide inspired leadership and uphold the rich traditions of the emirate.

The grand event, held at the Bama Township Stadium, followed the passing of the late Alhaji (Dr.) Shehu Kyari Ibn Ibrahim ElKanemi, who reigned for 30 years.

Governor Zulum expressed confidence in the new Shehu’s ability to lead with wisdom and foster unity in Bama Emirate.

“We have no doubt that with your pedigree and experience as a leader, you will offer inspired leadership. I urge you to carry all ruling houses along and remain open to positive contributions from stakeholders.”

Recognizing the role of traditional rulers in promoting peace, he commended their efforts in mobilizing communities toward socio-economic development.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving livelihoods, Zulum announced plans to close down the Bama IDP camp and resettle displaced persons from Daral Jamal, Tarmua, Mayanti, Bula Yobe, Abbaram, Goniri, and Kumshe by the end of the year.

He also revealed that funds had been released for the restoration of electricity to Bama, with similar plans for Gwoza town.

Zulum paid tribute to the late Shehu of Bama, acknowledging his contributions in education, healthcare, and peace-building. He also praised Vice President Kashim Shettima for his role in the reconstruction of Bama.

The governor appreciated the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and traditional rulers from Chad and Cameroon for attending the historic occasion.

The Shehu of Bama, (Dr) Umar Kyari Umar ElKanemi, pledged to support government policies and work towards lasting peace and development.

“We will continue to build bridges of understanding and ensure the prosperity of our people,” he assured.

The event witnessed a high-profile turnout, including: Deputy Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, Yobe State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana and Former Borno Governor, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, Amb. Babagana Kingibe also Senators Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Mohammed Ali Ndume, and Kaka Shehu Lawan.

Earlier, Governor Zulum commissioned a newly constructed government lodge in Konduga Local Government Area, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development.

With this historic occasion, the 2nd Shehu of Bama embarks on a new chapter of leadership, tasked with preserving traditions while steering the emirate toward lasting progress.
