Governor Babagana Umara Zulum attended the grand finale of the Ndume Unity Cup in Biu Local Government Area, Borno State, on Saturday.
The annual tournament, sponsored by the Senator representing southern Borno, Senator Mohammed Ndume, aims to engage, unite and empower youths across Borno South through sport. This year’s competition featured teams from all nine local government areas within the senatorial district.
In a closely contested final, Biu United defeated the defending champions Kwaya Kusar United. After regular time ended 1-1, Biu United triumphed 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out.
Governor Zulum presented the trophy to the victorious side and commended Senator Ndume for fostering unity through sport. He urged the federal lawmaker to sustain the initiative and pledged continued state government support for the tournament.
The winning team, Biu United, received a prize of ₦1.5 million, while runners-up Kwaya Kusar United were awarded ₦1 million. Third-placed Askira-Uba received ₦500,000, with all prizes courtesy of Senator Ndume.
The event was attended by the Emir of Biu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Mustapha Umar Mustapha II; Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bukar Talba; Borno State APC Chairman, Hon. Bello Ayuba; Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Musa Askira; alongside state assembly members, commissioners, local government chairmen, party officials and other dignitaries.
