Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Dauda Iliya as the official spokesperson and Special Adviser on Media.
Dauda Iliya’s appointment follows the passing of the former media adviser, Mallam Isa Gusau, who served in the role until his death in February 2024.
The Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, announced the appointment in a statement released on Friday.
Iliya, who hails from Kwaya-Kusar in Southern Borno, is the current Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Borno State Chapter. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Linguistics and a Master’s in Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri. Additionally, he has attended several professional training programs and is an active member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists and the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters.
Before his appointment, Iliya worked as a federal radio correspondent, covering Borno State.
In the statement, Governor Zulum congratulated Dauda Iliya and urged him to bring his extensive experience to bear in serving the people of Borno State.
