Troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dealt a fresh blow to terrorists in Zamfara State, recording significant gains in a (wave of operations) across Zurmi Local Government Area.
According to security sources, personnel of the 1 Brigade Counter-Terrorism Unit, working alongside a Tactical Combat Mobile Strike Team, launched coordinated offensives on March 25 in Dutsi village, Moriki District. The troops reportedly made direct contact with suspected terrorists, triggering a fierce firefight that forced the criminals to flee in disarray.
The advancing forces pursued the retreating (fighters), tightening pressure on their escape routes, though no further engagement was recorded during the follow-up chase.
A sweep of the (area) led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, further weakening the terrorists’ operational capacity.
In a swift follow-up, the troops extended the offensive later that day to Gandu village, maintaining momentum against the fleeing.
As soldiers advanced toward suspected positions on elevated terrain, they again encountered and disrupted the retreating group, effectively denying them freedom of movement within the district.
Security observers say the sustained pressure by Operation FANSAN YAMMA is steadily shrinking terrorist strongholds in Zamfara State, signaling renewed intensity in efforts to restore peace across the troubled region.
