The Zamfara State Police Command has sounded a stern warning to motorists in Gusau and across the state against covering or concealing vehicle plate numbers — an act it described as illegal, dangerous, and a potential shield for criminal activity.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, psc+, said the Command has observed a rising trend of motorists driving with hidden or tampered plate numbers. He stressed that such conduct violates traffic laws and hampers law enforcement efforts to ensure public safety.
CP Maikaba declared that the Command would no longer tolerate the act, directing operatives to immediately begin strict enforcement. “Any vehicle found with an obscured, covered, or altered plate number will be impounded, and the driver will face the full weight of the law,” he warned.
The Commissioner further appealed to residents and motorists to obey traffic rules and assist the police in maintaining peace and security across the state. He reassured the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The warning, authorities say, is part of broader efforts to curb criminality and improve road discipline within Gusau and its environs.
