The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has announced a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and unprofessional behavior among officers and marshalls.
Mohammed issued out warning at the Zamfara Command in Gusau on Tuesday, expressing concern over declining discipline and professionalism in field commands, citing incidents of extortion, abuse of authority, and reckless enforcement behaviors.
The Corps Marshal represented by the Assistant Corps Marshal Ibrahim Abubakar said the Corps observed some misconducts in the field of operation of officers and marshalls.
He said adequate welfare package was made to ensure that the mandate of FRSC was achieved in the country, adding that the Marshalls personnel were given open opportunity to advance their education and combat to officers.
The senior officers deployed to the Command were there as mentors, leaders and standard-bearers. They will engage you, guide you, listen to you, and remind you all of what its stand for.
Their mission is to strengthen discipline, reinforce leadership accountability and restore effective command and control structures that guarantee professionalism at all times.
Zero tolerance for extortion, harassment, and abuse of authority remain the leadership responsibility emphasized to maintain professionalism.
“We must remind ourselves that the Corps was not created merely to enforce traffic laws. We were established to save lives and serve the public with integrity.
“Our authority flows directly from public trust and once that trust is compromised, our effectiveness is compromised. This is why the present exercise is a corrective measure, not a witch-hunt but an opportunity for reorientation, reinforcement and renewal of discipline and integrity to enforced fairly and firmly”.
