The Zamfara State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment AGILE has trained students from the project’s benefiting schools on the importance of utilizing waste objects for local economic growth that would compliments the project’s supports for the retention and completion their secondary school.
The benefiting schools included Senior Secondary Schools derived from Zurmi ,Shinkafi ,Kauran Namoda Anda Birnin Magaji local government areas of the state converged in Zurmi local government area.
Speaking during establishment and inauguration of Zamfara AGILE schools clubs, the facilitator of the project, Ishaka Idris Mai Kwai, said the training has dual purpose which mainly focused on environmental consciousness, digital literacy, life skills and gender violence preventive measures.
According to Mai Kwai the students need to be educated on how best they can utilize the economic potentials deposited in waste dumping which could eventually be managed to improve their economic status for better life during secondary education periods.
“There has been a lot of objects even in commercial quantity considered as waste, but could be managed to create alternative source of living through packaging them for recircling, this can easily enable the students to reduce the level of dependency in solving immediate needs.
“On another hand, as they rush to clear the waste objects for economic purposes, in the same light, it effectuates environmental protection capable of producing disease-free community with very low records of malaria and cholera”, Zainab has stressed.
In another development, the facilitator inculcated the female students with belief they can live freely without entertaining sexual harassment, urging them to avoid shyness in claiming their constitutional rights and stop thinking of possible stigmatization in the society by ensuring reports of incidences to the related authorities.
She reiterated that, “The meeting is about the AGILE’s committed to raising awareness about environmental consciousness, climate change causes, effects and solutions particularly Tree Planting and Waste Management.
“You are also enjoined to safeguarding infrastructural facilities (Newly constructed and renovated structures including WASH facilities) by reporting suspicious vandalism to schools’ authorities”, Ishaka Mai Kwai has solicited.
