Yobe State Government Revamps Education Sector – SSG

In a bid to revitalize the education sector, the Yobe State Government has made significant strides in addressing the challenges facing secondary and basic education.

Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, revealed this during an inspection tour of state government projects on education across the state by the members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)

Malam-Wali highlighted the state government’s multifaceted approach to educational reform, citing several key initiatives undertaken since 2019:

He said the government has established more classes through the construction of model schools to alleviate overpopulation in urban areas.

He added that Yobe state government in Collaborating with traditional rulers to have improved primary schools enrolment in rural areas and has taken responsibility for paying West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) fees for students.

Wali said Yobe government has also Provided additional Day secondary schools for girls in Nguru, Gashua, Potiskum, and Damaturu among other local government areas in order to pursue their academic aspirations without hindrance.

He also highlighted the Ongoing school rehabilitation programs, including provision of furniture and infrastructure.

He government pays about N500 million monthly for feeding senior secondary school students as well as a plans to provide solar electricity in all secondary schools by 2025.

Malam Musa Bulama, Principal of Government Day Secondary School Gashua, commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for elevating the school and providing infrastructure by renovating the school administrative blocks, classes and laboratories among other.

Mr. Hasibullahi Jogi, Principal of NTIC, Yobe Campus, praised the state government’s support, citing improvement in the recent JAMB results.

He said none of this student of the institution scored less than 200 points in the recent JAMB result. He said more than 24 students have scored above 300 points. He said the girl students the best in the north east region with 336 points, attributing the success to state government’s support to the institution.

Hajiya Ladi Ishaku Gali, the Principal Government Girls Unity College, Damaturu also commented Governor Mai Mala Buni for the renovation of classrooms hostel accommodation as well as construction new hostel block.

While She thanked the present administration for making the school proud, she acknowledged effort of the state Ministry of education for all their efforts.

In his part, Comrade Rajab Muhammed Ismail, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), urged journalists to report professionally, setting aside political and religious affiliations to promote national unity and development.
