Yobe Govt Hails 241 Recce Battalion for Holding Line on Security

The Yobe State Government  has applauded officers and soldiers of 241 Recce Model Battalion for their professionalism and relentless operations that have helped keep the state secure.

The commendation was delivered by Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdussala (rtd.), Special Adviser to on Security Matters, during the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) held at the Nguru Military Barracks. As Senior General Officer Hosting (SGOH), Abdussala praised the battalion’s commitment to constitutional duties and strong collaboration with sister agencies under .

He said the synergy had ensured that all local government areas under the battalion’s watch remained free of Boko Haram activities, while strangulation operations along the Kano–Nguru–Gashua Road were described as strategic in curbing criminal movements and boosting public safety. The adviser also commended sustained efforts against farmer–herder clashes, cattle rustling, armed banditry and other social vices, noting that the troops’ gallantry had significantly improved security across Yobe and its environs.

Earlier, the Commanding Officer, Col. A.T. Adeuti, welcomed officers, soldiers, families and guests to the 2025 WASA, describing the event as a historic tradition of the that promotes unity, cultural heritage and stronger bonds with host communities. He traced WASA to the era of the West African Frontier Force and said it remains a vital regimental activity after independence.

Adeuti said he assumed command on June 5, 2025, and has since focused on sharpening operational effectiveness. He explained that the battalion supports 1 Division, Kaduna; is administered by 3 Brigade, Kano; and is operationally responsible to 27 Task Force Brigade, Buni Gari, for Operation HADIN KAI. The unit’s area of responsibility covers Karasuwa, Machina, Nguru and Yusufari LGAs, with forward operating bases at Jajimaji, Machina and Nguru, and frequent patrols in Yusufari.

According to him, sustained dominance in the sector has kept all four LGAs free of Boko Haram threats, while surveillance on the Kano–Nguru–Gashua Road has led to arrests of suspects, logistics suppliers and collaborators processed through Sector 2 Headquarters in Damaturu.

Adeuti added that the battalion serves as Yobe State’s permanent Nigerian Army recruitment centre, having hosted the 89 and 90 Regular Recruit Intakes, with the 89 intake graduating in November 2025 and the 90 intake currently in training. As a model unit, it also runs post-basic leadership and regimentation training for newly commissioned officers under Exercise Competent Officer.

He further disclosed improvements in training and infrastructure and the empowerment of 30 widows and barracks women under the Barracks Women Empowerment Scheme launched on December 4, 2025.

The colourful WASA attracted senior military officers, royal fathers, heads of sister security agencies, NAOWA representatives, soldiers’ families and members of the press.
