In a major step to revitalize the education sector, the Yobe State Government has recruited 948 new primary school teachers across the state.
This was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umaru Hassan Babayo, after a meeting with Governor Mai Mala Buni in Damaturu.
According to Babayo, the new teachers were employed to fill existing manpower gaps in public primary schools, with many of them being former volunteer teachers who had served diligently without formal engagement.
“The board is organizing workshops for the new recruits to equip them with additional teaching skills for effective and efficient classroom delivery,” he said.
Babayo urged the newly employed teachers to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government, adding that the board would intensify supervision to ensure accountability and productivity.
Governor Buni, while commending the recruitment exercise, directed SUBEB to ensure that only qualified candidates are engaged and adequately trained.
“The government will continue to support the board to enhance efficiency and productivity in the education sector,” the governor assured.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to repositioning primary education as the foundation for sustainable development in the state.
