The Yobe State Executive Council (EXCO), chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni, has approved projects worth over ₦6 billion spanning healthcare, road infrastructure, and commerce — in a major push to enhance development across the state.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner of Finance, Muhammad Abatcha, disclosed that the council also ratified a new policy mandating all public officers to undergo training on the Public Finance Management Law, which was signed in 2020 but has yet to be widely implemented.
To ensure full compliance, the law will now be included in civil service examinations, while senior officers seeking promotion must demonstrate knowledge of its content. Newly appointed officials, he added, will receive copies of the law and its implementation manual upon resumption of duty.
In a strong commitment to healthcare reform, the council ratified over ₦2.1 billion for hospital upgrades and procurement of medical equipment.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana, revealed that ₦1.7 billion has been allocated for civil works at Buni Yadi Specialist Hospital, Damaturu Specialist Hospital, and Nangere General Hospital — focusing on upgrading operating theaters and maternity centers to meet regulatory standards.
Additionally, ₦473 million was approved for the purchase of modern diagnostic and radio-medical equipment to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umar Wakili Duddaye, announced ₦2.6 billion worth of road and infrastructure projects in Potiskum, including a 4.7-kilometer extension of the township road linking Bazuwa Junction to Unguwan Fulani and the expansion of the Potiskum Trailer Park, which will double its capacity from 3,000 to 6,000 square meters.
In the commerce sector, Commissioner Kaigama Umar said the council approved the construction of pavements, clinics, and fire service stations in the nearly completed Ngalda and Yunusari modern markets. Another project will deliver external works at Ngalda Modern Market, including drainage, a retaining wall, and land reclamation.
Governor Buni’s cabinet emphasized that these projects reflect the administration’s ongoing commitment to modern infrastructure, accountable governance, and improved service delivery for all Yobe residents.
