The Katsina State Chapter of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria WOWICAN has called on the state government to expand literacy and skills empowerment programs for women to prevent them from being exploited by bandits as informants.
Speaking at an event marking International Women’s Day 2025, WOWICAN Chairperson, Dr. Agatha Nyam, emphasized the urgency of investing in women’s education and economic empowerment. She noted that many vulnerable women are manipulated due to poverty and lack of opportunities, making them easy targets for criminal groups.
“Investing in women is not just a slogan; it is a necessity,” Dr. Nyam stated. “We must break systemic barriers, provide skills training, and ensure women contribute meaningfully to national development.”
Call for Equality and Justice
Under this year’s theme, “Invest in Women. Accelerate Action,” WOWICAN stressed the need for:
✅ Increased literacy programs to uplift disadvantaged women.
✅ Vocational skills training for economic independence.
✅ Government collaboration with women’s groups to foster inclusion.
✅ Justice and gender equality to eliminate bias and discrimination.
Dr. Nyam urged individuals, organizations, and communities to support policies that empower women and drive progress toward a more just and equitable society.
At the event, women were encouraged to uphold moral values, reject false teachings, and unite beyond tribal and sectional divides to build a stronger future.
WOWICAN reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for women’s rights, dignity, and development, calling for urgent action to transform the lives of women across Katsina State.
