The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project SERAP has issued a stern warning to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, demanding the immediate withdrawal of a controversial bill seeking to regulate bloggers and online media.
Describing the proposed legislation as “repressive” and a threat to press freedom, SERAP said it violates constitutional rights to freedom of expression and access to information.
In a public statement, SERAP declared, “We’ll take all necessary legal action if the bill isn’t dropped immediately. The National Assembly must not gag voices online under any guise.”
The group urged lawmakers to focus on laws that promote transparency and accountability, not stifle dissent and journalism.
