1. On August 1, protesters started holding the red, blue, and white flag, calling on the Nigerian military to return to power.
2. The flag, which resembles the Russian flag, is also the flag of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Even President Tinubu used this flag in his broadcast to Nigerians.
3. A few bloggers and security Expert quickly went online to claim that Nigerians were calling for Russia’s support and denouncing the West, similar to recent events in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso.
4. Despite carrying the flag, no one in the protest mentioned Russia, but the media insisted they were seeking President Putin’s support.
5. When the protesters realized the government was worried or angry about the propaganda, they started bringing out more flags.
