WASA: Gov Aliyu pledges more support to Army for increased successes

Gov. Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto state, has commended the efforts of the Nigerian Army for successes recorded on tackling security challenges bedevilling in the country.

Aliyu gave the commendation while speaking at 2024 West African Social Activities (WASA), organised by 8 Division of Nigerian Army Sokoto.

The governor who was represented by Special Adviser on Security Matters, Retired Col. Usman Ahmad, said officers and soldiers have demonstrated exceptional performance and commitment to duties that led to crushing and subdued all forms of criminalities in the state.

“I am impressed with achievements on combating banditry, terrorism, kidnapping for ransom, cattle rustling, armed robbery and others.

” You have been resolute in the discharging of constitutional roles, the successes have yielded impacts on the peaceful coexistence in the state, ” Aliyu said.

He expressed appreciation for fruitful collaborations and synergy enjoyed by the state government from Nigerian Army and other security agencies.

Aliyu pledged continues support to Nigerian Army in order to ensure more success and enjoyed communities to avail security operatives with useful information.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of Nigerian Army Sokoto, Maj. Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, sought for more cooperation in order to achieve the desired impacts.

Ajose said WASA was where Nigeria’s rich military heritage and diverse cultural tradition was used as a medium for unity, fostering a sense of community and peaceful coexistence among personnel, their families and the broader civilian population.

” WASA is a unique tradition that allows troops to take a moment to appreciate our diversity, celebrate our successes and reinforce the bond we share with our host communities.

” It suffices to state that it is a time to reflect on our collective achievements, honour our shared cultural heritage, camaraderie and foster an environment of mutual respect and understanding.

” It is also gratifying to state that we completed all training schedules as reflected in the Army Headquarters Forecast of Events for the year, notwithstanding some glaring challenges within the period, ”Ajose saud.

According to him, 2024 was eventful and highly successful for 8 Division and Sector 2 Joint Task Force Northwest Operation FANSAN YAMMA in line with the vision of Chief Of Army Staff (COAS).

He listed some of the successes that included operationalization of 248 Recce B in Illelah and recent deployment of COAS Special Intervention Battalion VII in Gudu.

He added that new NAF air assets and other combat enablers launched into the operation which have been a force multiplier, leading to several successes recorded in the operation.

” The war against banditry and terrorists across the area of responsibility has been progressively and steadily won by our troops, as several bandit leaders and their supporters have been eliminated.

” This is no doubt boosting socioeconomic activities across the area of responsibility, as farmers and loyal citizens are now going about their activities, boosting confidence reposed in us by the populace.

” These activities assisted in maintaining the peace we enjoy in the state, therefore, it is against this backdrop that I stand to say that the successes we recorded last year were because of dedication to service and commitment by all our personnel, ” he added

The GOC assured that Nigerian Army would remain committed to the defence a security of our nation, despite the challenges, we have resolved to remove all the encumbrances to peace across our area of responsibility.

The Newsmen reports that the event featured cultural displays by different groups, presentation of souvenirs awards to soldiers who distinguished themselves in different areas in 2024 and burn fire.
