War Drums From Moscow: Russian Lawmaker Threatens Europe With ‘Oreshnik’ Missile, Black Sea Strikes

Borno State Government

Moscow’s rhetoric escalated sharply on Tuesday as a senior Russian lawmaker warned of possible missile attacks on Europe and the sinking of ships in the Black Sea, following the seizure of a Russian oil tanker.

Speaking amid rising tensions, Andrey Gurulyov said Russia must respond “firmly and decisively,” calling for the use of the “Oreshnik” missile system as a warning shot to what he described as growing Western pressure.

Gurulyov alleged that the tanker seizure was part of a broader pattern of hostile actions, accusing the United States of laying the groundwork for a major war. According to him, Washington’s moves amount to violations of international law and demand a response strong enough to deter further escalation.

The comments come at a time of heightened geopolitical strain, particularly around energy routes and maritime security in the Black Sea region. Analysts warn that such statements, even when framed as deterrence, risk inflaming an already volatile standoff between Russia and Western powers.

While no official military action has been announced, Gurulyov’s remarks underscore Moscow’s hardening tone — and raise fresh concerns in European capitals about the potential for the conflict to widen beyond its current bounds.
