Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shetima, has inaugurated the construction of a new six-story headquarters for the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) in Maiduguri. Located along Polo Road, this ultra-modern edifice is set to serve as the permanent headquarters for the NEDC.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Senator Shetima expressed his honor in witnessing this significant milestone. He emphasized that the NEDC, being a product of the people’s aspirations, is dedicated to transforming the region from a narrative of despair to one of renewal and triumph. He highlighted the NEDC’s resilience and dedication in driving development in the Northeast despite numerous challenges.
Senator Shetima underscored that the new headquarters is envisioned as a symbol of the region’s collective aspirations for peace, stability, and prosperity. He stated that the building represents more than just infrastructure; it is a testament to the shared objectives and hopes of the people.
Reiterating the alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s priorities, Senator Shetima commended Bluebell Nigeria Limited, the contractors, for their dedication and sacrifice in the project. He affirmed that the new NEDC headquarters symbolizes the collective will to rebuild, restore, and overcome the historical challenges that have hindered the Northeast’s progress.
Additionally, the Vice President flagged off the construction of the 23.3 km Jere Bowl Phase II road. This road project aims to improve accessibility to farmland and facilitate the transportation of farm produce in communities that have endured the ravages of Boko Haram terrorists.
