Uyo Sting: Police Nab Suspected Armed Robber, Recover Stolen Toyota Camry in Akwa Ibom

Katsina state government

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has scored a major win in its ongoing offensive against armed robbery syndicates with the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect and recovery of a stolen vehicle in Uyo.

The breakthrough came on Monday, June 27, 2025, when operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended one Tony John Isaac along Obio Imoh Street by Udoumana Traffic Light, in possession of a blue Toyota Camry bearing registration number JJJ 412 GX.

During interrogation, the suspect failed to provide any documents proving ownership of the vehicle, instead claiming he bought it from an unnamed individual in Aba, Abia State—a claim he could not substantiate with any details.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle was originally stolen at gunpoint from a 48-year-old man on February 28, 2025, in Aba. The victim was robbed of the car and other personal belongings in a nighttime attack along Osusu Road.

Thanks to inter-state collaboration, the rightful owner was contacted and successfully identified the vehicle with original documents to back his claim.

Grateful for the recovery, the victim commended the Nigeria Police for their swift and professional response.

The Command, under the leadership of CP Waheed Ayilara, reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations and maintaining public safety across the state.
