The Education for All Cluster, an educational drive supported by USAID and Palladium has sought media collaboration on inclusive education and accountability issues in Sokoto state.
The Newsmen reports that the project is tagged ”USAID-Strengthening Civic Advocacy and Local Engagement (SCALE)” and implemented by six nongovernmental organizations named education for all cluster.
In a presentation during a roundtable meeting, Hajia Hadiza Ibrahim, one of the Cluster leader, described media practitioners as key players in sensitization the public and linking the government and non governmental actors to ensure inclusive education system.
Ibrahim solicited the support and cooperation of Journalists on their crucial activities to ensure right implementation of inclusive system and gender policy in the state.
She explained that several advocacy visits were conducted by the cluster to relevant stakeholders in order to attract attention and supports.
According to her, the state government had signed into law gender policy and disability discrimination law in the state which serve as bedrock to be implementation of inclusive education.
She explained that the law became significant milestone in the improving the lives of persons living with disabilities in the state.
” The law enshrined provision of ramps for easy passages in public infrastructures including classes, toilets and other structures in our schools, provide biles for blind students and other relevant educational materials ” she said.
In another presentation, Mr Oluwo Claude, underscored the importance of media partnership on ensuring success of the project and charged Journalists to always adhere to professional practices and project guides.
Claude said all people are equal irrespective of ethnicity, religion differences, stressing that physically challenged persons possesses potentialities of living as normal persons.
He stressed that inclusive education policy entails providing equal play ground for citizens to access education at different levels without descrimination on disability status.
He dwelled on various categories of educational system from sagregation, integration, inclusive and exclusion being practice in different countries enumerating advantage and disadvantages as well as how inclusive system need to be prioritize.
Newsmen reports that the event featured questions and answers with solutions to lingering challenges on educational system as well as action committment from the respective media organisations.
