US Slams Niamey Airport Terror Attack, Stands Firmly With Niger

The United States has forcefully condemned the terrorist attack on Niamey that targeted the Diori Hamani International Airport and an adjoining military base, describing it as a grave assault on critical infrastructure and civilian safety.

In a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Niamey, the attack—carried out between the night of January 28 and the early hours of January 29—was denounced as a threat not only to public safety but also to ongoing efforts to stabilize and secure .

“This attack targeted critical infrastructure and threatens the security of civilians as well as all those who are working to support stability and security in Niger,” the embassy said.

Washington warned that such acts of violence undermine peace, development, and the collective efforts of Nigeriens and their international partners to build a safer, more prosperous future.

Reaffirming its unwavering opposition to terrorism and violent extremism in all forms, the United States expressed solidarity with the government and people of Niger, pledging continued cooperation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The United States remains committed to working with Niger and regional partners to promote security, resilience, and respect for human life,” the statement added.

The condemnation comes amid renewed concerns over militant attacks on strategic facilities in the Sahel, highlighting the fragile security situation and the urgent need for sustained regional and international cooperation.
