United Nations Decries Deadly Gwoza Attacks, Vows Support for Victims

The United Nations has strongly condemned the horrific suicide bomb attacks on civilians in Gwoza, Borno State.

The assaults, which targeted a wedding party on 29 June, have left dozens dead and many more injured.

A non-state armed group is alleged to have used a person-borne improvised explosive device in the initial attack, killing and maiming children, women, and men.

Two additional attacks followed later that day, exacerbating the tragedy.”I am horrified by this attack on civilian populations and condemn such acts in the strongest terms,” said the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria.

“The United Nations has reiterated the need for all parties to the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law and protect civilians.
