In a bold move to cleanse its ranks, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has demobilised 54 unqualified graduates, following a tip-off from the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Professor Florence Obi. The NYSC’s Director-General, YD Ahmed, revealed that the fake corps members were ejected and are set to face prosecution.

The demobilisation comes as part of NYSC’s broader efforts to sanitize its mobilisation process. Ahmed praised the UNICAL Vice-Chancellor for her vigilance, recounting previous instances of fraud, including the mobilisation of a bread seller posing as a graduate.

The crackdown is a clear signal that NYSC will leave no stone unturned in maintaining the integrity of its service scheme, with Ahmed warning that any lapses in the process reflect poorly on the institutions involved. The NYSC plans to strengthen its collaboration with all corps-producing institutions to prevent future occurrences.
