UNDP Collaboration Spurs North West Governors’ Bold Security Plan

The North West Governors’ Forum has unveiled a comprehensive action plan aimed at tackling the region’s escalating security issues.

Spearheaded by Forum Chairman, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, this initiative emerged from the two-day North West Peace and Security Summit held at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Government House, Katsina, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

During the summit, North West Governors, alongside UN agency representatives, hammered out a timeline targeting short-, medium-, and long-term security solutions.

Radda announced the formation of a dedicated Secretariat within three weeks to draft a detailed action plan and timeline, ensuring accountability and execution of the summit’s recommendations.

Governor Radda praised the collaborative spirit and meaningful contributions from all participants, emphasizing that the summit had successfully identified the root causes of the security challenges and the critical constraints faced by authorities.

He highlighted the commitment of the North West Governors to implement economic development initiatives as a key pillar in reducing insecurity and providing employment opportunities for the youth.

The summit concluded with engaging discussions on socio-economic development and food security, featuring Governor Radda and his Jigawa counterpart, Umar Namadi.

Governor Radda extended his gratitude to the UN and UNDP for their pivotal role in organizing the event and expressed optimism that the collaborative efforts will pave the way for lasting peace and security in the North West region.
