UMYU Inaugurates Advisory Board to Drive Entrepreneurial Excellence

Umaru Musa Yar’adua University UMYU, Katsina, has taken a significant step towards enhancing entrepreneurship education with the formal inauguration of the Advisory Board Committee for its Entrepreneurship Study Centre. The event, held on February 11, 2025, took place at the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Room, marking a new phase in the university’s mission to equip students with essential entrepreneurial skills.

The newly inaugurated committee comprises distinguished professionals from various sectors, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the centre.

The members include Muhammad Usman Sarki, CEO of Al’Dusar Enterprise, Katsina, who will serve as the chairman of the committee. Other members are Hon. Ibrahim Lawal Dankaba, Executive Director of the Small Town Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (STOWASSA), Dr. Lawal Aminu Bala, General Manager of Katsina State Assets Management Agency, and Murtala Abdullahi Kwara, Director of Entrepreneurship at UMYU.

In his keynote address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shehu Salihu, underscored the critical role of entrepreneurship in addressing youth unemployment and fostering economic growth. He described entrepreneurship as a key and ladder for students to achieve self-reliance, stressing that equipping young people with entrepreneurial skills is pivotal in today’s dynamic job market.

Professor Salihu also commended the Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umaru Radda, for his unwavering support towards entrepreneurship development in the university. According to him, the governor’s commitment has been instrumental in creating an enabling environment for students to acquire practical business knowledge and skills.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated committee, the chairman, Muhammad Usman Sarki, expressed gratitude for the trust bestowed upon them. He assured the university management that the committee would work diligently to fulfill its mandate, stating that all hands would be on deck to ensure that they bring out the best in the discharge of their assigned responsibilities.

Similarly, Hon. Ibrahim Lawal Dankaba pledged his commitment to the committee’s objectives, drawing from his personal entrepreneurial journey. He highlighted his achievements as an entrepreneur, emphasizing the transformative power of entrepreneurship in driving personal growth and community development.

The inauguration of the Advisory Board Committee represents a significant milestone in UMYU’s efforts to promote innovation, business development, and entrepreneurial excellence.

The university’s management expressed confidence that the diverse expertise of the committee members would provide strategic guidance to the Entrepreneurship Study Centre, positioning it for greater success in nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs.
