Condolence Message on the Passing of Hon. Justice Lawal Muhammadu Uwais, GCON
(Pioneer Chancellor, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina)
It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that I, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff, and Students of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and associates of our esteemed pioneer Chancellor, Honourable Justice Lawal Muhammadu Uwais, GCON, who passed away on Friday, 6th June, 2025.
Justice Uwais was a towering figure in the legal and judicial landscape of Nigeria—a man whose name became synonymous with integrity, fairness, and deep intellectual insight. His contributions to nation-building, constitutional development, and the advancement of justice remain timeless.
As the pioneer Chancellor of our University, Justice Uwais brought dignity, prestige, and invaluable wisdom to our institution. He played a foundational role in shaping the ideals and vision of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University. His presence in our early years gave the University both direction and inspiration, and his legacy continues to guide us in our pursuit of academic excellence, moral uprightness, and public service.
We deeply mourn the loss of this exceptional statesman and elder whose life was marked by honour, humility, and patriotism. Though he is no longer with us, the principles he stood for and the foundations he helped to build will continue to endure.
We pray to Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings, accept his noble deeds, and grant him Aljannatul Firdausi. May He also grant the family, and indeed the entire nation, the fortitude to bear this great loss.
