The Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. David Nweze Umahi, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a historic redefinition of road construction technology and methodology in Nigeria, noting that the scale and quality of ongoing projects across the six geo-political zones are “unprecedented.”
Umahi made the remarks yesterday in Enugu during an inspection of the descoped sections of the Enugu–Onitsha dual carriageway project.
The Minister lauded the President’s inclusive resource allocation, stressing that the South East is already witnessing massive benefits under the Renewed Hope administration. He noted that the region is part of the President’s 3rd Renewed Hope Legacy Project, covering 123 kilometres at a cost of ₦464 billion, with 50 percent of the contract sum already paid.
“South East is for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and no one is going to deceive us,” Umahi declared. “Our people are benefiting just like other regions. We are very grateful to the President, and we know that in the next five years, these projects will be completed, and Nigeria will never be the same again.”
Highlighting the transformation in road technology, the Minister explained that the Enugu–Onitsha dual carriageway now features reinforced concrete pavement designed to last up to 100 years. “Under President Tinubu, we are not just constructing roads, we are building roads,” Umahi said.
The Minister also expressed satisfaction with the quality of work by contractors, including SKECC Nigeria Ltd on the Enugu–Onitsha carriageway, CCECC at the Abakpa Junction Interchange, and Reinforced Global Resources Nig. Ltd on the 23-span flyover bridge at Eke-Obinagu along Enugu–Abakaliki Road.
He urged contractors not to be deterred by the rains but to continue work on aspects not affected by weather conditions.
Umahi concluded by emphasizing that the President has proven himself a father to all sections of the country: “What is happening in the North West, South West, North East, North Central, and South South is also happening here in the South East. This is Renewed Hope in action.”
