The United Kingdom has warned its citizens against travelling to six Nigerian states over the rising wave of insecurity across parts of the country.
In a new travel advisory issued through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the UK government advised its nationals to avoid all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Katsina, and Zamfara States, citing threats of terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.
According to the advisory, the security situation in parts of northern Nigeria remains unpredictable, with increased reports of attacks by armed groups, roadside ambushes, and communal clashes.
The statement also urged British citizens already in affected regions to exercise extreme caution, avoid crowded areas, and keep in close contact with the British High Commission in Abuja.
Channels Television, The Nation, and Punch Newspapers all confirmed the updated UK warning, noting that the advisory reflects the country’s growing concern over persistent violent incidents and abductions targeting civilians, security personnel, and foreign nationals.
The UK government further maintained that it “advises against all but essential travel” to several other states in northern and southern Nigeria where sporadic attacks and kidnappings have been recorded.
The advisory comes amid ongoing efforts by Nigerian security agencies to restore peace in regions affected by terrorism and banditry, especially in the North-East and North-West zones.
