In a bold push under Operation FANSAR YANMA Phase V, Nigerian troops have taken the war directly to terrorists’ strongholds in Sokoto and Zamfara States, eliminating six insurgents and dismantling several key camps.

The days-long offensive saw soldiers advance through treacherous terrain, including Gidan Madi, Tsamiya, Tudun Ruwa, Alela, and deep forest zones long dominated by the dreaded Lakurawa faction.

Despite facing ambushes and stiff resistance, the troops pressed forward, flushing out terrorists from major hideouts in Areo, Damoria, Tumuna, and Goboro Forest—locations previously used to launch attacks on civilians and convoys.

Military sources revealed that six terrorists were neutralized, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Weapons, handheld radios, motorcycles, and magazines were recovered, disrupting the group’s logistics network.

One soldier was wounded and is receiving care at 8 Division Military Hospital, while a vigilante tragically lost his life in the line of duty.

Security officials say the operation marks a turning point in efforts to reclaim and stabilize the North West from insurgent grip.
