MINNA — Troops of the Nigerian Army have dealt a crushing blow to armed bandits terrorising parts of Niger State, neutralising several fighters and rescuing scores of captives in a coordinated offensive across Mariga and Magama Local Government Areas.
Security sources disclosed that the operation swept through Eriya and A’ure communities in Mariga LGA and extended to border areas of Magama LGA, targeting criminal elements who had reportedly migrated from the Ibbi–Zugurma axis of Kainji National Park.
The criminals were said to have fled their former base in Ibbi Forest, attacking unsuspecting civilians along their escape route — killing some and abducting others — while transporting previously kidnapped victims.
Troops from Warari Forward Operating Base (FOB) and Gulbin Boka FOB, under Nigerian Army formations in Kontagora, launched a series of coordinated assaults that overwhelmed the bandits in fierce encounters.
Several of the criminals were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds, significantly weakening their ability to regroup or stage fresh attacks.
In a major breakthrough, the troops rescued numerous men, women, and children held in captivity. Military officials described the mission as a clear demonstration of operational superiority, discipline, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding innocent lives.
“The intervention reflects the bravery and professionalism of our soldiers who remain resolute in restoring peace to troubled communities,” a source said.
Sustained Pressure
The offensive forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle bandit enclaves and restore confidence across parts of Niger State, long plagued by criminal violence.
Security authorities urged residents to continue cooperating with the military and other agencies by providing credible intelligence, stressing that sustained collaboration is key to achieving lasting peace and stability.
As troops maintain operational pressure, communities once gripped by fear are beginning to breathe a cautious sigh of relief.
