Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have dealt a fresh blow to insurgents with the arrest of three suspected recruitment agents of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Banki, Borno State.
The dramatic arrests followed a tip-off from the Banki District Head, triggering a covert intelligence operation that tracked the suspects as they allegedly moved to lure and ferry young men into terrorist training camps.
The suspects—Gajibo Kayama, 23; Tahiru Modu, 22; and Bulama Modu, 24—are accused of recruiting youths aged between 17 and 20 from Banki and channeling them to ISWAP elements operating in Adamawa State.
Sources revealed that preliminary investigations point to a troubling twist: the trio are said to be former ISWAP fighters who claimed to have repented about five years ago, only to allegedly return to the shadows to rebuild recruitment pipelines.
“They were intercepted while attempting to recruit and convey youths within Banki town for training in Adamawa State,” a source said.
The suspects have since been handed over to the Military Intelligence Regiment for thorough interrogation and further action, as troops intensify the crackdown on terror recruitment networks across the North-East.
