Troops Seize Arms Cache in Zamfara as Hunt for Fugitive Turji Intensifies

In a decisive operation, troops of 1 Brigade under the Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), intercepted a significant cache of arms in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State, on January 27, 2025. Acting on intelligence about arms dealers linked to the Niger Republic, the team launched a covert mission that led to a dramatic pursuit along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi road.

The suspects abandoned their vehicle during the chase, and a subsequent search revealed an arsenal comprising two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition.

Meanwhile, the manhunt for notorious terrorist Bello Turji remains a priority. Reports indicate Turji is on the run, shifting between hideouts to evade capture. Security forces remain resolute in their commitment to bringing him to justice, urging locals to provide actionable intelligence to support ongoing operations.

Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Centre, assured the public of the military’s unwavering determination to secure the region, emphasizing the need for community cooperation.

The operation underscores the military’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace to Zamfara.
