In a daring jungle operation, gallant troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade, operating under Operation Lafiyan Jama’a, stormed a kidnapper’s den in Mbulu community, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, rescuing a hostage and neutralising one suspect.

Acting on credible intelligence, the soldiers swung into action around 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, following a distress call from residents alarmed by the activities of a kidnapping gang terrorising the area.

A military source told Zagazola Makama that the breakthrough came when one of the suspects was nabbed at a local market while trying to buy food for the gang. Under preliminary interrogation, the suspect spilled vital information, leading the troops to the criminals’ bush hideout.

“But as the soldiers approached, the remaining gang members opened fire,” the source said. “Our troops responded with superior firepower, killing one of the assailants while others fled into the bush.”

One kidnapped victim was successfully rescued in the raid, while a fabricated AK-47 rifle and a locally made Dane gun were recovered from the scene.

The rescued victim is currently undergoing debriefing and will soon be reunited with his family. Meanwhile, troops have intensified pursuit of the fleeing kidnappers.

The Nigerian Army hailed the swift operation as part of its unwavering commitment to rid Bauchi and surrounding regions of banditry and kidnapping under Operation Lafiyan Jama’a.
