Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled an attempted infiltration by fighters of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) in Gamboru Ngala, a strategic border town in northern Borno State.
Sources confirmed that the terrorists launched the attack around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, attempting to breach the town through the Flatari axis. The troops, however, responded swiftly with superior firepower, forcing the insurgents to retreat after a brief but intense exchange of gunfire.
According to military sources, no casualties were recorded among the troops or civilians during the encounter. “No adverse report was recorded. The troops are currently on exploitation to track fleeing elements,” one of the sources said.
Normalcy has since returned to the area, with residents commending the alertness and prompt response of the Nigerian soldiers, whose quick action prevented what could have been a major security breach.
Gamboru Ngala, which borders Cameroon, has remained a target for insurgent incursions due to its strategic location along transnational smuggling and militant routes.
The latest attack comes amid ongoing counter-terrorism operations across the North-East, as the Nigerian military continues its offensive to eliminate the remaining pockets of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters hiding in isolated enclaves.
