Troops of the 6 Brigade, operating under Operation Whirl Stroke, have intercepted a suspected gun-runner in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State, recovering a massive cache of arms and ammunition in a major breakthrough against criminal networks.
The suspect was apprehended on February 21 during a targeted operation based on credible intelligence, security sources disclosed.
Items recovered from the suspect include 969 rounds of live ammunition, two AK-47 rifles, 197 empty magazines, and a cash sum of ₦2.44 million believed to be proceeds from illegal arms dealings. Other incriminating items were also seized during the operation.
Military authorities described the interception as a significant disruption of arms supply routes fueling insecurity in parts of Taraba and neighboring states.
The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as investigations continue to uncover possible accomplices and the wider network behind the illicit arms trade.
Operation Whirl Stroke has in recent months intensified operations across Taraba and the North Central region, targeting gun-runners, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening peace and stability.
