Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected foreign national under suspicious circumstances along the Damaturu–Potiskum axis of Yobe State, raising fresh security concerns in the North-East.
The suspect, identified as Abdulrazak Muhammad, 31, was intercepted during an early morning checkpoint operation by soldiers of the 233 Tank Battalion.
Security sources said the man, believed to be from Accra, Ghana, was unable to provide any valid means of identification at the time of arrest.
A search reportedly uncovered three mobile phones without SIM cards, a handwritten notebook, and a small amount of foreign currency in his possession.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly gave conflicting accounts about his origin and movement — at different times claiming to be from Mali, Ghana, and Nigeria — while also stating he was a student, further deepening suspicion.
Troops described his responses as incoherent, with no clear destination or purpose of travel, prompting his immediate detention.
Military authorities confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations intensify to unravel his true identity and possible security links.
The arrest underscores ongoing vigilance by Operation Hadin Kai in tightening security across the region amid persistent threats.
