Troops Nab Armed Militia Suspect, Recover Weapons in Plateau State

In a swift security operation, troops of Operation Lafiyan Jama’a have apprehended a suspected militia operative and seized a cache of arms and ammunition in Plateau State’s Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

Military sources confirmed that the arrest took place on the night of Saturday, July 6, 2025, at approximately 9:12 p.m. along the Kafi Abu–Rakwok road, following credible intelligence reports.

The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Stephen Gyang, was allegedly lying in wait to launch an attack on unsuspecting road users when troops intercepted and overpowered him.

Upon his arrest, security forces recovered a locally made AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Gyang, who is a resident of Kafi Abu in the Barkin Ladi axis, is currently being held in military custody as investigations continue to uncover the extent of his network and intentions.

This arrest comes amid ongoing efforts by security forces to root out armed groups and restore lasting peace to communities across Plateau State.
