Nigerian troops have launched a major offensive against bandits in Zamfara State, intensifying operations that led to the recovery of a large cache of ammunition and the destruction of several criminal enclaves.
The operation, conducted by troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, took place in Anka Local Government Area and surrounding forests known to be strongholds of notorious bandit leaders. During the clearance mission, the troops recovered a significant quantity of light machine gun (LMG) ammunition, AK-47 rounds, and communication devices used by the criminals.
According to a military source, the operation followed credible intelligence reports that revealed the movement of armed groups and stockpiling of weapons in the area. “Our troops acted swiftly, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun duel that forced many of them to flee their hideouts, leaving behind weapons and supplies,” the source said.
Defence Headquarters spokesperson, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, in a statement, confirmed that the offensive is part of sustained efforts to eliminate armed groups and restore normalcy across the North-West.
He noted that the Nigerian Armed Forces remain committed to ensuring peace and security in Zamfara and other troubled parts of the country. “We will continue to intensify our operations until all criminal elements are neutralized and law-abiding citizens can go about their activities safely,” he stated.
Residents of nearby communities have expressed relief over the increased security presence and called on the military to sustain the tempo until banditry is completely wiped out.
